Privacy Policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and the control you have over it.
This policy explains what SIREN (“we”, “us”) collects when you use the SIREN app on iOS or Android or visit trysirenapp.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. The email address and identifier provided by Sign in with Apple or Google sign-in, your handle, and confirmation that you meet the age requirement.
- Content. Signals (video) you broadcast, captions, video reactions, Stacks, Clones, and your votes on Clones.
- Private activity. Keys you request, issue or revoke, and what you send in Solo, Circle and Stream.
- Messages to us. Anything you send to support@trysirenapp.com, and your email address if you join the beta waitlist.
Information collected automatically
- Approximate location, described below.
- Activity. Signals you view, react to, stash or archive, and timestamps such as when you were last active.
- Device information. A push-notification token, device and operating-system type, and app version.
How we use it
- To run SIREN: placing signals near where they were sent, showing you signals nearby, and calculating how signals grow and decay.
- To deliver private features: Keys, Solo, Circle and Stream.
- To send notifications about activity on your signals and Key requests.
- To keep the community safe: detecting and removing content and accounts that break our Terms.
- To respond to you, and to contact you about beta access if you asked us to.
- To fix bugs and improve the app.
Location
SIREN is location-based, so it needs your location while you use the app. We store an approximate location, not your exact GPS coordinates. Signals are tagged with an area roughly a kilometre across, and other people see that a signal is nearby, never your precise position.
You can turn location access off in your device settings at any time. Without it, you won't be able to broadcast or see nearby signals.
Content moderation
When you post a public signal or a Clone, a thumbnail from the video and its caption are checked by an automated moderation service (OpenAI's moderation API) for content that breaks our rules. Flagged content may be hidden automatically and reviewed by us. Other users can also report content, and we may review reported content, including the account that posted it.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run SIREN, only for that purpose, and when required by law or to protect people's safety.
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, sign-in, and server functions |
| Cloudflare | Video storage and streaming; website network |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple; iOS push notifications |
| Google sign-in; Android push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging) | |
| OpenAI | Automated screening of video thumbnails and captions |
| Resend | Sending email, such as beta-access messages |
| Vercel | Hosting trysirenapp.com |
Content you broadcast publicly is visible to people nearby while it's live, and anything you post can be seen by the people you share it with.
How long we keep it
- Public signals leave the feed when they decay to DEAD. They remain on your profile until you delete them or delete your account.
- Private signals are archived after 24 hours of inactivity and stay in your archive until you delete them.
- Your account and its content are kept while your account exists. If you deactivate, your data is kept so you can come back. If you delete your account, your sign-in access is revoked and your personal information is removed. Content you've posted may remain visible under an anonymized identity that isn't linked to you; delete individual signals first if you want them gone. We may keep limited records where we need to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or deal with abuse.
- Support emails are kept as long as needed to help you.
Beta waitlist
If you request beta access on trysirenapp.com, we store your email address, the time you signed up, the page you came from, your browser type, and a one-way hash of your IP address (used only to stop spam; it can't be turned back into your IP address). We use this to send you a confirmation, contact you about beta access, and manage invitations. We don't add you to marketing lists.
We keep waitlist entries until the beta ends or you ask us to remove you. To be removed, reply to any beta email or write to support@trysirenapp.com.
Your choices and rights
- Delete or archive content from your profile at any time.
- Deactivate or delete your account in Profile → Settings. Deactivating is reversible; deletion is permanent.
- Notifications can be turned off in your device settings or in the app.
- Location access can be turned off in your device settings.
- Access, correction or a copy of your data: email support@trysirenapp.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law (for example, India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, the GDPR, or US state privacy laws). Contact us to exercise them.
Children
SIREN is for people aged 17 and over, and the app checks this at sign-up. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child is using SIREN, tell us at support@trysirenapp.com and we'll remove the account.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access to our systems is restricted. No service is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects you as required by law.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
